WASHINGTON (April 16, 2024) — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) reported that its Construction Backlog Indicator increased to 8.2 months in March from 8.1 months in February, according to an ABC member survey conducted March 20 to April 3. The reading is down 0.5 months from March 2023.

PITTSBURGH (April 3, 2024) — Russell Standard, a provider of pavement materials, road preservation treatments and industrial asphalt solutions, has taken over operations at the only asphalt terminal in the state of Delaware, located in the city of Seaford. Formerly owned by ICP Group, the terminal serves counties, the Delaware Department of Transportation and contractors across the state.

BEDFORD, Mass (April 5, 2024) — The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI), issued by Dodge Construction Network, fell 8.6% in March to 164.0 (2000=100) from the revised February reading of 179.5. Over the month, commercial planning fell 3.2% and institutional planning dropped 17.2%.

WASHINGTON (April 5, 2024) — The construction industry added 39,000 jobs on net in March, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a year-over-year basis, industry employment has expanded by 270,000 jobs, an increase of 3.4%.

BEDFORD, Mass. (March 20, 2024) — Total construction starts fell 8% in February to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.07 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Nonresidential building starts dropped 16%, while nonbuilding starts lost 3%, and residential starts fell by 2%.

WASHINGTON (March 28, 2024) — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and its Florida First Coast chapter filed suit in federal court to stop the Biden administration’s plan to mandate project labor agreements on construction contracts procured by federal agencies.

BALTIMORE (March 26, 2024) — A cargo ship lost power and rammed into a major bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, destroying the span in a matter of seconds and plunging it into the river in a terrifying collapse that could disrupt a vital shipping port for months.
